The 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is making history this year with the posthumous induction of Tupac Shakur. He will join the Hall of Fame with N.W.A., Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Hip Hop artists are becoming increasingly popular candidates for induction, despite some of the controversial chatter from Rock & Roll artists.
Tupac will be the first solo hip-hop artist to be inducted. Some of the other artists on the ballot included Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, and Depeche Mode. The people who are selected for induction are artists who are exceptionally talented. They have gone above and beyond to help develop and preserve the Rock & Roll genre of music. Candidates become eligible 25 years after their first album is released. Despite his absence, Tupac continues to be a driving force in Hip-Hop. He is considered to be one of the top lyricists in the game and his music continues to be an influence for the future. It will be interesting to see who comes through to accept this award for him. His mom, Afeni Shakur, passed away earlier this year.
