The Bachelorette is not a show on everybody’s radar. It has a huge following and people are interested in seeing what’s happening but generally speaking, it’s not a favorite. The latest announcement from the recurring dating show may draw some interest and a stir up a lot of chatter. The show recently announced that Rachel Lindsay will be casted as the 13th Bachelorette…and she’s a black woman. This is the first time a black woman has been casted for this role on this show. That’s pretty epic.
If you’ve ever watched the show you know that seeing a black person was rare. It was usually the men contending for a future wife and 9 times out of 10, they were booted off fairly quick. This time, Ms. Lindsay is the star of the show. Even though she is on the show trying to snag Nick (we now know she has no interest), she will have a chance at finding her own Boo next season. She is a top-notch catch as she is a lawyer (who passed the bar on the first attempt), she seems to be cool, and she happens to be a popular choice of the fans.
The choice to cast her could come from a variety of influences, one of them being the solid selection of black women holding it down on ABC. Shonda Rimes and her epic show, Keri Washington and Scandal, and of course Black-ish with Tracee Ellis Ross are doing big things. They’ve collected a bevy of accolades that are proof that they have what it takes to deliver. Their shows are popular, being talked about, and that is probably the hope for this new Bachelorette option…don’t quote…just an observation.
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out and more importantly…who they pick to be in her dating pool. Be sure to tune in on May 22nd to see how it all goes down. Visit here for additional show details.
