It’s that time of year when hundreds of thousands of young people leave dorm life and enter real life. Graduation season is upon us. While most people are looking forward to leaving their educational institution, others would much rather stay put until further notice. They know the dangers of life after Undergrad and it’s pretty scary. Having earned a degree, one has to wonder…what happens now that they’ve graduated?
Finding a job is tough, even tougher with a degree. One wouldn’t think that’s the case after 4 or 6 years of schooling but…it’s a fact. Robert De Niro must have given the most truthful commencement speech this year. He warned the graduates that they were graduating “into a tragic, dumbass comedy” and that they should all make an effort to work for change. The crazy part is, it’s always been a struggle post college. While the current political situation has a lot to do with it, getting a job has always been a mission. Countless job fairs and resume workshops later, a lot of graduates end up working in a field that has nothing to do with their degree. At the end of the day, it’s all about the money you make. Sallie Mae doesn’t care how you got it…so long as you get it to pay her back.
No worries, there’s a bright side. Like anything else, hard work is key. Never giving up and always working towards your goal is how you get ahead. For all the times someone tells you “NO”, turn it into a “YES”. Enjoy these graduation moments and get ready to get your “Adulting” on!
