A Fitting Tribute: Afshin Shahidi Pays Homage in ‘Prince: A Private View’

Some of us are still trying to accept the fact that Prince is no longer on this earth. The news of his passing stunned the world a bit and literally shook some of his fans to the core. Thanks to his music, his memory will live on forever. Prince was very selective about who he let into his space. Details of his life were kept to a minimum and few people got close enough to see the real him. One man, Afshin Shahidi, had the privilege of capturing it all. He recently put together a literary project that includes a collection of images and stories about Prince. The book, Prince: A Private View, gives fans an intimate view of the singer that we’ve almost never seen.

“Truth be told, the word ‘icon’ only scratches the surface of what Prince was and what he remains to me,” – Beyoncé

Afshin Shahidi met Prince over 20 years ago and was one of the only people allowed to shoot him. As his friend and personal photographer, he traveled all over the world to capture Prince with his lens. His view was way different from ours as they had a personal relationship that allowed him to get closer than most people ever did. He carefully selected never-before-seen images for this publication and told accompanying stories that will make fans smile. Along with some epic images and stories, Beyoncé lends her pen for an intro that is the perfect opening for Prince. The book is set to drop on October 17, 2017 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
